Review by hotel critic
During my recent city break in Kyoto, I had the pleasure of staying at Gionkoh, a charming hostel nestled in the heart of the Higashiyama Ward. As someone deeply captivated by historical and environmentally rich surroundings, I found this property perfectly situated near significant sites like Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Yasui Konpiragu. The twin room I booked on the second floor offered a soothing garden view, equipped with air conditioning to escape the heat after outdoor adventures. The amenities, including a well-maintained shared kitchen, made it convenient for my travel companion and me to prepare light meals when we weren't indulging in local delicacies. What struck me the most was the warmth of our host, who provided insightful recommendations for nearby restaurants that catered to our dietary needs. The garden courtyard, adorned with traditional decor and an inviting ambiance, made our mornings serene, allowing us to reflect on the cultural tapestry of Gion. For travelers seeking an authentic experience imbued with historical charm, Gionkoh is an unbeatable choice-truly a delightful haven from which to explore the wonders of Kyoto.
